The trail's most difficult obstacle is right at the beginning of the trail, a rocky outcropping above a campsite. Need I say, this run up the Deer Valley Trail was the first one we’ve been able to squeeze into our crazy busy schedule and man, am I ever glad we did. There are still some down trees blocking sections of trails, so please use with caution. The trail is officially open with trail repairs made at the stream crossings. Only 45 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, the Deer Valley Trail (Route 9N83) is a short, 6.6 mile route that starts near the Lower Blue Lakes Dam, cuts through an open corridor in the Mokelumne Wilderness and then ends up over at the Hermit Valley Campground located on HWY 4. The Deer Creek valley is an open willow-filled meadow surrounded by lodge pole pines and the barren rock face of Glacier Mountain along the western slope. These trail are super fun and are well built. During these winter and spring months vehicle use on dirt roads and trails is prohibited. All affected roads have been completed.
